Tauranga is the most populous city in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand.
Settled in the late 13th century by the Maori and in the early 19th century by Europeans it was constituted as a city in 1963.
We visited Tauranga on a cruise ship and spent most of the day on a 100 km roundtrip to Hobbiton (I have included a link here).
Upon return to the dock at Mount Maunganui, I was able to spend a couple hours walking around this peaceful little resort community stretched out between the harbour and the sea.
What a beautiful little area around Pilot Bay beach.
